About Us

Ben Portner is the owner and master electrician of Portner Electric. He was born and raised in Virginia Beach where he got his start in the trades with a construction job in high school. He moved to Richmond in 2008 to attend VCU where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. He continued working in carpentry through college before getting a job as a plumber’s helper for a year, then finding his way into the electrical field where he has been ever since. This background has helped him to become a well-rounded tradesman who is experienced with the different facets of home improvement. Ben prides himself on being an honest man and earning a reputation of being a trusted, neighborhood electrician throughout the greater Richmond area.

Ben can be found with his wife on their 4-acre homestead in Varina whenever he is not working. They enjoy gardening, animal husbandry, and various other aspects of a more self-sufficient lifestyle. He is an avid outdoorsman and loves being on the water or in the woods whenever possible. Ben is also an accomplished bowler and enjoys woodworking and tinkering with projects around the house.
